MARIAN WRIGHT EDELMAN
Getting involved in the community has always been extremely important to me and something that I'm passionate about, more so in the past few years. In college, I was a volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club, and helped run a mentor program for high school students in the Syracuse community, where I was able to work with students on their school and career goals. Through being involved in these organizations, I've learned that equity in education is extremely important, and making sure all children have access to the educational resources and support they need is essential for their futures. Here are some of the amazing organizations and charities that work to provide children and young adults opportunities to succeed. A percent of Sage + Sunset profits will go to these organizations - learn more about each below!
"Boys & Girls Club will seek to make a positive and life-long impact on our community’s children. Young people will have a safe place to go every day after school.
Our proactive, preventive programs will be of the highest quality and responsiveness in order to guide children beyond the snares and stumbling blocks in their lives. We will support them with consistent encouragement, professional guidance and instruction and life-changing opportunities. Club experiences will cultivate understanding and appreciation of a diversity of cultures. Club members will become successful, productive and caring citizens…
How we help others will be our measure of success. We will not only equip our young people with a membership card, but with a vision and moral compass. Individually and collectively, we will form a constant in the lives of our children…" (https://www.bgcsyracuse.org/mission-and-history)
"Chester County Futures (Futures) is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1996 which offers direct program support and services through after-school academic enrichment meetings, mentoring and post-secondary scholarship support.
We serve economically disadvantaged Chester County students motivated to earn a high school diploma and post-secondary degree in order to achieve their personal educational goals and become meaningful contributors to the communities in which they live."(https://www.ccfutures.org/at-a-glance.html)
"Our Mission: Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities.
Our Vision: One day every child will have the essentials they need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued." (https://www.cradlestocrayons.org/what-we-do/our-mission-and-model/)
